(Issue of June 13, 1885)

New Atlantic cables
  The SS Faraday, with cable
on board to connect Weston
with New York via Valentia, ar
rived off Weston and dropped
anchor midway between Steep
Holm and the Esplanade. A
barge was put alongside the
steamer, and into the former the
cable was "payed out" and
brought ashore.

  One end was then connected
with the batteries in the offices
in Regent Street. Telegraphists
were able to speak direct to

Nova Scotia, where the cable
landed.
