George L.B. White Esq.,
General Manager,
Commercial Cable Company,
London.

Dear George,
                               Cable Beacon.

Thank you for your letter dated 30th April. Yesterday I
got in touch With Mr. G.L. Holtby (who's address is now in Furze Close,
Worlebury, Weston-super-Mare) ; he will be writing directly to you
concerning the Cable Beacon and quoting a price for demolition which
I expect will be in the region of £40. His proposal is to cut the iron
post with an oxy-acetylene flame at mud level and for the felled post
to remain lying on site as the scrap value would not justify labour
and difficulty of salvage.
Of course I have no knowledge of your earlier correspondence
with Mr. Holtby but in conversation with him I understand that the
recovery of our cables is merely in abeyance and that eventual demol-
ition of the beacon when recovery completed was part of the arrange-
ment.

Apart from the Board of Trade as mentioned in your letter
of 17th April I do not know if any other authority or interested party
for example the local Council or yachtsmen, could raise a valid
objection to the removal of 'the Beacon which has been a feature of
Weston Bay for so many years, but I assume that you will have taken
good care of any such possibility and that your authorisation to proceed
would contain an assurance that would meet any query that might be
raised when the demolition work actually starts.
Doubtless you will be replying directly to Mr. Holtby when
his letter is received but 1 shall be away from Weston for one week
commencing next Saturday and there fore unavailable until towards
the end of this month.   With kindest regards.

                                            Yours sincerely,
